It’s more than timberland.
Historically, MWV land has been managed to provide a dependable supply of wood for company mills. But there’s a lot more to our land than the trees we harvest. Behind the scenes are fragile ecosystems and delicate wildlife. It’s our responsibility — and our privilege — to protect these natural habitats.
Over the years, we’ve developed and refined a variety of forest management strategies to promote timber growth that’s compatible with environmental protection and long-term sustainability. Among these methods, our Ecosystem-Based Forestry is one of the most widely recognized. Through this award-winning system, we maintain water quality, preserve areas with historical and biological significance, provide a diversity of timber ages and ensure a variety of wildlife habitats - on a landscape level.
It’s through this process and others like them that we ensure our lands maintain aesthetic qualities that are harmonious with their surrounding natural landscapes. And because we’ve cared so deeply for our land, it’s grown to be ideal settings for a number of outdoor activities, from hiking and bird watching to hunting and fishing.
Of course, a lot of our learning takes place during research.
