Meet Our Land Specialists

We love our land and take pride in being good stewards. Our Land Specialists — all passionate outdoorsmen with a history of working closely on the very tracts they represent — are pleased to take the time to help you find the rural property of your dreams. In fact, MWV Land Specialists have worked in land management or rural land sales for the majority of their careers.

And because they all share your passion for the outdoors, you can rest assured they’ll spend all the time needed to locate the property that’s just right for you. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, just call. They can help.

MWV Land Specialists are located in South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, and West Virginia.  Please read on and meet the team.

SOUTH CAROLINA:

Jim Brown

Jim Brown

Jim’s roots in MWV land go deep. He’s been working on the company’s lands for more than a quarter of a century, first in land management and later in harvesting research. As a MWV Land Specialist, Jim loves being a part of the process that can transform a tract into a personal paradise. His own house, in fact, is a product of his vision: after years of clearing and burning, the home is now nestled among beautiful live oaks and Spanish moss amid the 27 rural acres he owns. Jim’s volunteered with a number of outdoor groups over the years, including the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Department of Natural Resources’ Take One Make One program.

David Lynch

David Lynch

A lifelong hunter and angler, David views his work as more of a blessing than a job. For awhile, he handled some commercial and residential properties, but it was always rural land sales he was drawn to. Now that he’s in rural land sales full time, David’s filling his days doing what he loves most: helping potential owners create the personal paradise they see in their dreams. Like most MWV Land Specialists, he’s honed many of his skills in volunteering with various organizations, from Ducks Unlimited and the International Game Fish Association to the Quality Deer Management Association and Bill Fish Foundation.

GEORGIA AND ALABAMA:

John Torbert

John Torbert

John believes that the best way for anyone to enjoy the outdoor experience is to actually own a piece of it. John (a.k.a. "Dr. Dirt") came to MWV in 1995 with a PhD in Forest Soils to help improve forest productivity and stewardship of our lands. With a deep knowledge of each tract’s potential, he loves helping different types of buyers get the right property – like helping investors understand timber productivity, helping sportsmen with habitat, or helping any outdoors enthusiast get the vision and knowledge to be able to transform land into their own special place. Most of his recreational time is devoted to working and enjoying his own special place - a 100-acre tree farm in Alabama, where he and his wife grow pines, hardwoods, southern native azaleas, catfish, and a few poorly trained bird dogs.

Jimmy Head

If you could construct your ideal property from scratch, what would it look like? Would you want loblolly pines? Or perhaps a quiet, rippling pond? These and questions like them are the kind you’ll hear from Jimmy. He’s a straight shooter (literally — he fills his free hours with recreational shooting) who wants to see you find the property of your dreams. A degree in Wildlife Biology, membership with organizations like the Quality Deer Management Association and a love for hunting and fishing are just a few of the many trademarks that influence Jimmy’s work.

VIRGINIA AND WEST VIRGINIA:

Eldon Plaugher

Eldon Plaugher

Eldon’s been a member of the Society of American Foresters since 1974, just one year longer than he’s been an integral part of the MWV story. His many titles have included Land Surveyor, Acquisition Specialist and Project Forester. He never misses the opening days of deer and turkey season and is a past president of the West Virginia Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. And like all of MWV’s Land Specialists, Eldon’s passion for the outdoors is what keeps him in high spirits day after day…a great benefit, since his decades of on-the-ground experience now mean a very deep understanding of MWV lands.

Gary Youngblood

Gary Youngblood

Every once in a while, Gary thinks about retirement. But he loves his work so much that the thought is typically a fleeting one. After 35 years with MWV, he still gets a rush every time one of his properties is matched with the perfect buyer. It’s the same feeling he gets when an excited owner is found for one of the English Setters he breeds. Gary loves what he does so much, in fact, that much of his leisure time is devoted to various forestry groups. He’s held a mix of positions with the Society of American Foresters since 1971, for instance, and was awarded Appalachian Society of American Foresters Distinguished Service to Forestry Award in 1999.
